What is Nasal Flesh?
Nasal flesh growth is a common condition in childhood. The nasal flesh is a tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity. Nasal flesh is a part of the immune system just like tonsils. In other words, it produces antibodies, which are substances that help the body fight microbes. The nasal flesh catches germs such as bacteria and viruses entering the nose. Sometimes children may have nasal flesh growth or inflammation. In this case, nasal flesh may need to be removed by surgery. Taking nasal flesh does not mean that the child will get sick more often. Because there are other tissues in the body that produce antibodies such as nasal flesh.
What are the symptoms of nasal flesh growth?
Symptoms of nasal flesh growth include;
Difficulty breathing through the nose
Breathing in the mouth
Keep mouth open all the time
Speech
Noise during breathing
Snore
Short-term breathing stops during sleep (Sleep Apnea)
When is Nasal Flesh Surgery Needed?
If the child has difficulty breathing, sleep apnea, frequent recurrent inflammation of the nasal flesh, or speech disorder, there is a need for nasal surgery. In nasal surgery, the child is anesthetized by general anesthesia. The operation takes about 15-20 minutes. The nasal flesh is taken through the mouth of the child. Therefore, there is no need to make any incision on the skin for nasal surgery.
