What is Nasal Flesh Surgery?
Nasal flesh surgery is the process of removing nasal flesh by surgery. Nasal flesh, or adenoid, is a tissue located in the upper part of the nasal cavity. Its task is to fight the microbes and keep them away from the body. Nasal flesh works actively especially in childhood.
For some reasons, growth in the nasal flesh can be seen. The growing nasal flesh obstructs the respiratory tract in children, causing difficulty in breathing. It can also lead to sleep disorders, loss of appetite, growth retardation, sinusitis and otitis media. Therefore, nasal flesh growth is a problem that must be treated.
How is the surgery performed?
The most definitive treatment of nasal flesh growth is removal of nasal flesh by surgery. Surgery is performed under general anesthesia. After the patient is put to sleep, a metal device is placed which keeps the mouth open. The nasal flesh is removed with a special tool. This process takes a minute or two. Then, the endoscopy is checked where the nasal flesh is removed and the surgery is completed. Nasal surgery lasts approximately 15-45 minutes. A few hours after the surgery, the child starts eating and drinking, and after a while the child is sent home.
